Fairfax County Democratic Committee’s Outrage at the Supreme Court Decision to Disenfranchise Eligible Virginia Voters
FAIRFAX COUNTY – Today, the Fairfax County Democratic Committee (FCDC) denounces the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold a mass voter purge in Virginia, a ruling that disenfranchises eligible voters, and deepens voter confusion across Virginia at a critical time.
This decision places countless Virginians’ voting rights at risk. It is a partisan attempt to discourage voter participation, an effort spearheaded by Governor Glenn Youngkin to intimidate naturalized citizens wishing to exercise their right to vote.
FCDC Chair Aaron Yohai stated, “The decision to purge voters is nothing less than an assault on democracy. Every eligible U.S. citizen has the right to vote, and we urge Virginians to exercise that right by voting in-person and requesting same-day registration if needed. Today’s ruling introduces unnecessary confusion mere days before the election and shows that the true goal of the current Republican agenda is voter suppression.”
We are also calling on voters not to allow Governor Youngkin’s tactics to deter them or their communities from making their voices heard. Voters should know that, even if purged from the rolls, they have the right to use same-day registration and cast a provisional ballot to ensure their vote is counted.
Fairfax Democrats will not stand by as Governor Youngkin and his allies attempt to obstruct voting access to benefit Donald Trump. We urge every resident of Fairfax County to stand firm in the face of these attacks and demand a government that respects every eligible citizen’s right to vote.
